from PENINSULA My Sister Spoke to the Ravens My sister spoke to the ravens and they said back to her: live in the light, as we do. The light never leaves, nor do we; we fly on light, it lifts our wings, the light that never leaves. Cleave to us as we ring above the trees. Once I spoke to my sister to say the Absaroka were really Raven People, not crows, and I flapped my arms to show in the light that never leaves, and maybe she smiled, for she spoke to ravens, and it was light she lived, and loved to move on any breeze: when she died the raven galloped on the wind and circled back to say to me: live in the light, the light that never leaves, come live as we do in the light that tips our wings: come speak to us, as we divide the breeze, live as we do, in the light that never leaves.
