This is a story about my ancestors, Andrew and Jane Miller Cruikshank and Charles and Sarah Foreman, and the hardships and tragedies they experienced in order to help create a free nation. They lived in Hanna's Town in southwestern Pennsylvania, at the site of the first court system west of the Allegheny Mountains. This is a story of Jane's first husband, Capt. Samuel Miller and his death at the hands of Indians. It is also the story of the destruction of Hanna's Town, July 13, 1782, in the last major Indian attack of the Revolutionary War, during which two of Jane's children were kidnapped. Only one survived. Most importantly, this is a story about bravery and commitment to a cause in which they deeply believed. How different our world would be without the sacrifices these people made.
