The stories in the book are brilliant! They scared me a little because the characters and situations seemed so real. I read the book about 2 months ago and I can still recall each story in detail. Martin Pond is a great story teller and I cant wait for his next book!
I finished reading Dark Steps at one sitting, I simply couldn't put the book down. Each short story promised a twist that I looked forward to reach. Unfortunately, in most instances I figured out the twist before it happened. This could be just me, since I read a lot in the horror genre. This, however, didn't reduce my reading pleasure. If anything, it highlighted the author's ability at using the almost forgotten art of subtle horror. Some endings were thought invoking. I spent hours rethinking the endings, wondering if there was more to them than what I understood. Dark Steps is a book not to be missed. The author's writing style kept me glued to my seat, turning the electronic pages, eager to know what's going to happen next. Martin Pond is a promising story-teller. His description lacked for nothing, I could easily visualize the scenes as they unfolded. That's a very important part of the narration for this reader. I'll definitely be on the lookout for other books by Martin Pond.
