I found this history fascinating even though the family lines covered are not in my own tree chart! The depth of research into 1200s-1600s English society--cultural, financial, political, structural--to show the environment, upbringing and mindset of some early colonial immigrants is nothing short of awesome and revealed the truth of Winston Churchill's statement that "the farther backward you can look, the farther forward you can see." I was shocked to discover how our past decade mirrors England's medieval waves of prosperous periods that ended in "shattering world crises"! The same detailed attention to colonial and later U. S. history and culture has produced a life-and-times backdrop that will be helpful to other genealogists wanting to develop a well-rounded picture of their own Southern ancestors, and the tree-chart structure presents, in a clear and unique way, more than the usual number of generations of interconnected families on a single 8 1/2 x 11-inch... More > sheet. I hope to convert my own family tree to this format. Finally, a 30+-page "Endnotes" section lists the sources of personal individual, societal, and geographical information in a standard bibliographic format, and the concluding index provides ready access to the many families traced. This well-illustrated, well-written book is a gem that will be appreciated by other genealogists, especially by everyone lucky enough to descend from these families! Dena Wilson< Less
