This is the first part of a two part history of the Communist Party of Ireland. Based on extensive research into previously unsed sources, including the CPI's own archives, Treacy looks at the Party mainly with regard to its relationship to the IRA. He also places the Party and its ideology in the context of Comintern policy and strategy up to 1943, and the Party's own adherence to Communist orthodoxy.
