Tomb of the Iron God is a Swords & Wizardry adventure by Matthew Finch. I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars. Positives: Mr. Finch has created a really interesting back story as to how and why the Tomb of the Iron God first came into existence, and then came to be accessable by the players. The adventure contains lots of very interesting details and Easter eggs that players should enjoy exploring. Also, while the physical tomb itself is not terribly large, it is definitely designed to be explored over multiple sittings (and character trips back to town). Finally, Mr. Finch has included a number of helpful extras, such as instructions for running this adventure in an OD&D style (which is how the module is designed to be run), a table of rumors, and tables for repopulating the dungeon, er I mean tomb. Negatives: I think the lower level of the tomb could prove a little repetitive in actual play. Also, there were a couple aspects of the layout which I questioned, but then again modifying... More > pre-written adventures to suit the style of individual campaigns and DMs is certainly in keeping with the ethos of OD&D. Finally, this adventure could prove quite deadly for first and second level characters (the recommended levels for characters exploring the tomb) which, while in keeping with OD&D style of play, could prove very frustrating for novice players. So, while I certainly recommend this module, I wouldn't run it as the first adventure for players who are new to D&D. I think players should have some experience under their belt before taking their new first and second level characters into the Tomb of the Iron God.< Less

I have read and run a LOT of RPG adventures, probably over a thousand. This little adventure by Matthew Finch is a fantastic little jaunt. Interesting, evocative with a bit of spooky thrown in it exemplifies what I love in a dungeon. Highly recommended.
