MITES is the story of an accomplished scientist, Andrew Nichols, who joins a small and struggling technology firm that is developing micro-robots for use in humans. These microscopic devices are intended for applications such as tracking and treatment of disease, but there are others with more devious plans. The company is under the leadership of a rather incompetent man and is involved heavily with military contracts, which creates some tension over the true power and use of the micro-bot technology. Dr. Nichols soon uncovers mysterious activities around the company; and slowly he and a couple trusted staff members (Elisabeth, a young and brilliant researcher, and H.J., a rehabilitated computer hacker) unravel the mystery. Also on the hunt is DEA agent Chris O'Toole. Soon, Nichols and O'Toole come together and discover not only the development of a new, designer drug secretly made at the company but also a merciless micro-bot that is capable of killing--instantly.
