WAR MEMORIES

ByMaurizio Zambardi

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Maurizio Zambardi belongs to the new generation that didn’t live through the Second World War, but the great love for his homeland and his inexhaustible wish to know the past of San Pietro Infine has brought him, after various and important publi-cations, to confront the tragedy of San Pietro as the war passed through. With horror, he has listened to dozens of testimonies of survivors; he has learned that those tragic events are to be re-membered and passed on because they can only bring feelings of peace and a repudiation of all war. As well, he wanted these accounts to help induce his fellow-citizens to love their own vil-lage all the more. San Pietro is not his ancestors’ village, cling-ing to the slopes of Monte Sambúcaro, with its medieval alleys, bell towers and old houses, but rather a modern and charming little town built on the plain, after the unavoidable, but also ab-surd, destruction by the German and Allied bombs.
