Around 1730, Armand de Vignerot du Plessis (13 March 13-August 8, 1788), a French nobleman with so many titles such as Duke de Richelieu and Maréchal de France, erected a “follie” to entertain friends, people in high places and to romance his mistresses. Prime Minister Cardinal de Richelieu liked what he saw at this “follie”. And naturally, Armand de Vignerot’s “follie” became “Follie-Richelieu” in 1779.
The “Follie-Richelieu” could be considered to a certain degree as France’s first cabaret which catered to the most powerful and distinguished figures of France’s nobility. This is exactly how and why Le Casino de Paris was born. Here is the story of Le Casino, its stars, legends and shows from 1779 to the present, enriched with hundreds upon hundreds of vintage and rare photos.
