This is a book about the life story of Alex Benjamin, a very unique story, not only for its dramatic twists and turns but for the way in which Alex found help, continues to grow and evolve and how he refuses to be defined by the prejudice and misconceptions of others. I write Alex's story to explore different themes related to trauma and living in trauma. The themes move from the very intimate and personal, to religion, political structures, racism, xenophobia and stigma around mental health.

Very emotional and honest account of Alex's story. It's very inspiring to read about an African man openly expressing raw emotions and trauma he's experienced throughout his life. And at the same time helping to raise awareness of Mental Health issues we face on a diary basics. Thank you for the great read Maxwell, a job well done.

Maxwell's account of the story of Alex is deep. It is not often that men open up in such depth about their experiences that has stuck with them and affected their lives. Mental illness is a conversation not often held and definitely not by men. A brave work Maxwell for convincing Alex to recount his story. The weaving of the various scenes, the openess, the transparency raising intrigues certainly makes the reader hold on to the book and not want to drop until you have finished reading Looking forward to reading the follow up

This book is incredibly inspirational. The strength and determination of this young man leaves me with nothing but respect and admiration. The way this book is constructed is marvelous and educational and really opens up the eyes of the reader who may have otherwise overlooked ones own issues. It caused me to look inside myself and I can truly relate to a number of emotional issues Alex confessed to within this book. An honest account that must have been difficult to muster the strength to relive these traumatic experiences over again. Alex is clearly full of love and wants the world to change for the better and if we could all take a leaf out of his book, no pun intended, we would indeed be closer to achieving Alex's goal. A brilliant and thought provoking piece of literature.
