As an ex-crew member myself, I thoroughly enjoyed Micha's book. Brought me back to some of the good times and some of the difficult times that we had onboard. No one ever believes the stories we tell, with some daring to say we fabricate the information; however, there is no way to make up some of this stuff. When boarding a ship, something strange happens, you just become someone else. You do things you would not dare do at home. You experience something that you had never experienced before and you take home memories of all sorts that leave you in awe. Sharing those times as Micha has done, shines a light on a life that will always be a mystery, and, we have resources that are unlimited. Enjoy the read, it is good fun. I purchased this book because I was curious about life aboard a cruise ship. While Micha's job had benefits not available to most of the crew, his story was very interesting, nonetheless, and offered glimpses of the lives of the rest of the crew. I enjoyed the book and will pass it along to my cruise loving brother.

After going on a cruise, I was very interested in what the day in the life of the crew was like. I got the book from the library and was very impressed with the steps that he took to get the job. After a few chapters, I found myself telling my 12 year old son that if you want something bad enough, you have to work very hard to achieve it. As I got towards the end of the book my feelings changed as I realized that he was just plain lazy. He did the work to get the job, than felt "entitlement" as if the rules to not apply to him. My next conversation with my son was about keeping up the level of ambition after you get your dream job. A good read, but certainly not a good role model!!!!
