Michael A. Davis is a sensitive writer who poetically conveys that scary time back then when prejudice and racial issues created fear and even death. He takes us on a journey through the eyes of Tyme, a small boy with light skin living in a family of dark skinned individuals. He is treated with suspicion by his own people and the "others." He learns much through keen observation in the home and through the wisdom of his stern but loving grandmother, Mother Johnson. It is a real trip back to the past where innocent situations exploded into false arrests and harrassment that lead to murder. There are two more volumes in this saga of Tyme. I am eager to read more and accompany Tyme on his journey to a happier space.
