Housing in Columbus: Gahanna

ByMichael CadwellJohn McMorrough

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
This book documents the terminal core graduate studio at the Knowlton School of Architecture at The Ohio State University. The site for the 2008 studio was a fourteen-acre lot in Gahanna, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. Gahanna’s sprawling growth over the last 10 years has been fueled by high-density suburban residential development, a diabolical combination of suburban inconvenience (reliance on the automobile) and urban oppression (lack of privacy). The fact that Gahanna takes its name from a biblical antecedent – the wasteland of burning refuse outside the gates of Jerusalem, figuratively Hell – only adds to its appropriateness as a site.
