An Endzeitgeist.com review The first expansion of Stonehell clocks in at 7 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page SRD, leaving us with 5 pages of content, so let’s take a look! The Stonehell dungeon books were donated by one of my patreon supporters for my edification, with the note that I can review them, if I’d like to. Since I am a bit OCD, I have decided to cover the supplements as well. So here we go! So, this pdf depicts the brigand caves on the surface-level of the mega-dungeon; as such, my brief discussion of the supplement contains minor SPOILERS. Potential players may wish to jump ahead to the conclusion. … .. . Only referees around? Great! So, this is pretty much what it says on the tin – an alternate means of accessing the dungeon, with a shaft allowing PCs to enter quadrant 1A of the mega-dungeon. The level provides a secret shrine dedicated to the master of the dungeon (allowing for a bit of foreshadowing) and otherwise feature a crawlspace with centipedes, a watch lizard and... More > the like, as well as a solid strategy to respond to intruders. Other than that, it’s, well, a 20-room brigand-cave dungeon. Conclusion: Editing and formatting are very good on a formal and rules-language level. Layout adheres to the no-frills ½-column standard of the main Stonehell book, and cartography is detailed and solid, b/w, and no player-friendly, unlabeled version is included. So, this supplement, imho, is a web-enhancement, a freebie that lets you try out whether Stonehell’s unique one-page-dungeon inspired presentation works for you. That being said, it is not a particularly interesting teaser as far as I’m concerned. If I had only read this one, I probably would have skipped the dungeon. It’s not bad by any means, but neither is it that remarkable. Were this a commercial module, it’d fall probably somewhere in the 2.5 to 3-star vicinity. As a FREE expansion, though? Well, it’s worth downloading and considering, particularly since it can help you determine whether Stonehell’s very compressed presentation-format works for you. As such, my final verdict will be 3.5 stars, rounded up due to in dubio pro reo. Endzeitgeist out.< Less

Haven't run Stonehell yet, but looking forward to it, and this freebie will probably come in handy. NOTE: the last room in this supplement, room #20, has an error that might confuse folks (it did me!). It refers to the chimney tunnel with the rope & pulley etc. as leading down to room #10 of 1A, "Hell's Antechamber". That's the wrong room; it ought to say it leads down to room #10 of 1C, "The Contested Corridors".

This one is a freebie and well worth an actual price. Though short and sweet it has made an impact on the campaign with the brigands interacting with the characters in a pretty much 'non-robbing' capacity. I've taken a little of the background information provided to set them up more as 'freedom fighters' and thanks to a lucky random encounter where the group ran into, and helped, some of the brigands they have a bit of an alliance going. I'll add in some politics further down the line to complicate matters a bit between the PCs the town and the robbers. Overall an excellent addition to Stonehell Dungeon.
