Agaritas is book of reminiscence and of an abiding love of nature and of animals, written by poet Michael Davenport. He is also a businessman, a sculptor, as well as an environmental conservator who views the world with the innocent eyes of a child and the intuitive wisdom of a philosopher. He is a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a grandfather and a friend to all he meets.

Sep 17, 2013I've read all of the poetry, I've lived through some, appreciated others, empathized with a few and laughed with many. The work is deep, heartfelt and seamless. I appreciate the ability to read in such a way that you can be in the poem. The imagery that it gives you the ability to visualize is a work of art itself. Good read, a priceless purchase and a lifetime keepsake.
Sep 10, 2013Michael Davenport is an excellent writer, to be sure, but even more importantly, he's an excellent man, an excellent human being. I had the good fortune of meeting him as a fellow member of a poetry community site and soon realized there was an artist at work behind the scenes, between the lines of his poetry. His commentaries for others demonstrated intelligence, a fantastic sense of humor and an enlightened, transcendental soul. It was obvious that he had actually lived his life rather than only having survived it ... and he was continuing to do so admirably. Later, my husband and I got a look at a metal sculpture Michael had done and we were even more impressed by his knowledge of space, form and fluidity. The subjects he writes about cover a wide range of topics ... of course, he can discuss religion, politics, education and social issues with the best of them, but he also manages to keep his inner child laughing with an acute sense of the absurdity surrounding us all. He is... More > astute, compassionate, completely involved in our world and everything in it. He and his wife not only had a self-made business to run, but also found time to raise a fine family as well as constructing safe habitats for wildlife on their property, thereby becoming environmental conservators of the finest order. Their mutual love of nature is vibrant as is their sincere and genuine respect for other people. They're both a delight to talk to and we soon became fast friends with respect for each other's accomplishments. We all had the good sense to marry our own best friends, as well ... our support structures are solid and intact, which allows for great freedom ... especially since artists are (supposedly) difficult to live with. Michael's writing possesses elegant instincts and he understands how to perform a subtle ballet with language and form ... indeed, how to "lasso the moon" for his beloved muse. Where I come from, they are what is referred to as being "Good People" — and that sort of praise is not easily handed out. One must earn the title. Michael is indeed an artist and whoever reads his words is a better person for it. I could not recommend this author and this book any higher. — Wanda Lea Brayton, author of "The Echo of What Remains ... Collected Poems"< Less
