I was intrigued to check this book out and read ahead of my class because it left a good edge from me wanting to know what would happen next. Throughout the reading of this book I was astonished by how good it was and I would reccomend it to anyone if they asked with a 5 star rating. Hopefully the sequel will come soon...hopefully very fast...if not it was amazing itself. It took me less than of a week to read it and probably would go by faster for any on comers. An Amazing Book It Was!

I just finished reading "A Tale of the Texas Frontier: The Journey Home" the 2nd time. It was such a good book that I felt compelled to read it over again. Before I even read the book - the cover art was a special invitation for me to read the book. It is difficult for me to believe that a 7th grader painted this. I had thought a talented adult was the artist. As I love history and lived in Texas for 20 years, I was amazed how much more Texas history I learned as I read from chapter to chapter. I would like to thank Michael J. Crossley for not only writing a book for 7th graders but one that adults will welcome to read and keep in their libraries. The last two pages in the book leave me wanting the second book in this trilogy to come out as quickly as possible.

This book successfully captivates audiences from middle school to us older ones with a heart binding fiction based on the tough life encountered by early settlers trying to make a new life on the Texas frontier. The fictional major characters grab you from the first moments with their courage and independence while the author truly helps you realize and walk along side life in this tough and cruel frontier called Texas. A truly great historical fiction

My husband and I had the opportunity to read the book together and found it so difficult to put down...we were engaged in the story. You can see how the challenges of living in the Texas Frontier can make a person face their true character. Even when life is difficult, there is still a place for honor, love, respect, and commitment. It is a great read...can't wait for the next one!

Saddle up for a great ride! The story puts you right can almost smell the coffee boiling over the campfire. A wonderful story (based upon Texas history) of a young man making his way in the 1850's Texas frontier. The courage, compassion, and grit of the main character make it a book that you can't put down.
