This is the true story of Jane McKechnie Walton who emigrated from Scotland in 1850 as a child, sailing with her widowed mother across the Atlantic Ocean. At sea she faced treachery, hurricanes and watery burials. She joined the Thomas Howell Wagon Train Company that was headed west. As a pioneer, she walked, mostly barefooted, across the American plains. Married Charles E. Walton and conquered the famous Hole-in-the-Rock Expedition where pioneers lowered their wagons 2,000 feet down sheer cliffs, a feat still considered the most difficult in all the pioneering era. Jane and her husband went on to homestead in the Four Corners area of Utah, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico. There, they dealt with murderous Indians, forsaken outlaws and the punishing elements of nature. Jane’s surprising friendship with a murderous Paiute Indian named Chief Posey and their destined confrontation with the outlaw Tom Roach bring her life and this story to an surprising finish.
