By the summer of 2092 human exploration of space had taken us further and further into the unknown. The development of fusion propulsion had effectively reduced the galaxy in size and the eternal human question "What is out there?" was being answered with the discovery of other planets and lifeforms. Sadly, in our galaxy, belligerence is not confined to humanity and the first sentient beings we encountered were extremely hostile creatures. We were forced into a long, bloody war that cost millions of lives. They were eventually defeated - but at a cost. When a spaceship inexplicably disappears we are again forced to ask the question "What is out there?". Exciting 'keep you guessing' science fiction adventure. Good 'Earth vs the Aliens' base storyline, with many intriguing additional sub-plots and plenty of twists. If you have any imagination, you should really enjoy this book. May 24, 2009"Despite the title, you haven't experienced this before." I loved reading this book. The writing style is clean and unfussy, and concentrates on developing rich characters, and unravelling a fascinated plot with wicked and unexpected twists. There are the makings of a trilogy here, and I fully expect the second book to surprise me as much as this one did. Michael L Wood's first novel is just the tip of the iceberg: an excellent prospect.
Oct 27, 2008"Riveting and Intelligent Sci-Fi Novel" Having been recommended this book, I was very surprised to discover that this is the author’s first novel. The narrative is bristling, the plot ( and sub-plots ) compelling and despite the book’s 350 odd pages, Michael L Wood never allows the tension and intrigue to sag. In a technological age when it is increasingly difficult to create future or otherworldly landscapes that are both original and believable, the Author manages to immerse you in another time and place without distracting from the storyline; I suspect his next challenge will be to write a screenplay that lives up to the book. In the past few weeks I have read Hemingway, Steinbeck and Kafka. I am happy to add Michael L Wood to that list.
Jun 20, 2008"I couldn't put it down!" I seem to have spent most of my morning sitting by the coffee pot trying to stay awake - why I hear you ask? Simple, Deja Vu is truly a un-put-downable romp through the Galaxy and a fantastic debut novel for Mike Wood. A classic good against evil plot with twists galore and subtle sub-plots of love, friendship, betrayal and power - all set in Mike's wonderful vision of the future. If you love Sci-Fi then you will devour this in a single session. If you are new to the Genre then prepare to become a fan!
Jun 16, 2008"A great first novel!" In a move worthy of a jump in hyperspace I moved from my regular crime fiction genre to tackle Sci-Fi in the form of Deja Vu. To my surprise (as I had attempted this before), I found it had well thought out sub plots which fed the main plot creating a captivating story which had me glued to the pages for chapters and hours on end. I was able to identify with the characters as I journeyed with them through the pages and into space. I can't wait for a sequel... If you are looking to take a quantum leap into Sci-fi, Michael L Wood has created the perfect "star-jump" into the genre.
May 28, 2008"Deja Vu" I usually read books very slowly but I found myself not wanting to put this one down. The start was unexpected and as it progreses you keep reading more wanting to know what happens next. Writing was nicely atmospheric and very descriptive for our "dumbed-down" age and I easily imagined myself there alongside the characters. It has good storylines which mix together well and I was not expecting the ending. A good old sci-fi adventure. Suspect there could be a Deja Vu II....
