Affter a disputed sighting on the salt-marsh, Jonny Stamper and his mate, Dinners, find themselves at the centre of a provincial rumour mill and are reluctantly swept along on a wave of small-town indignation. Dragged into the struggle to save yet another local factory from closure, following the proposed development of a state-of-the-art, ultra-modern, energy-from-waste super-incinerator, Jonny takes up the good fight. Is this newly-found sense of good citizenship fuelled by his wish to save the river-island nature reserve, or his loathing for his Mum’s new boyfriend? Or is it just that he fancies a couple of the girls. Acid Town is a story of naivety, apathy, contradiction, double standards and broken promises.
