January 17th 1966. While the world watches the mounting conflict in Vietnam, half a world away in Europe a B-52 bomber collides with its mid-air KC135 refuelling tanker killing all aboard, and dumping four MK28 Hydrogen bombs around the Spanish town of Palomares. One lands in the ocean, and it takes the Navy two and a half months to locate it. In Hawaii, an experimental programme for locating and retrieving underwater ordnance is pioneered, using marine mammals. For the "Men with Green Faces" returning from combat tours in Vietnam, their next posting for some, was this unique, challenging and enjoyable assignment to Project "Quick Find". In his second book, and the first of it's kind on the subject, retired Navy SEAL Commander Michael P. Wood opens the doors to his time with Project Quick Find. A fantastic array of photographs (taken by Cdr Wood) illustrates the detailed and highly informative memoir throughout and the narrative and detail of training and recovery... More > is peppered throughout with the sort of capers and pranks that are synonymous with The Teams. This is a great book... and a very rare glimpse into a little-known programme, run by just a handful of SEALs in the years following the Vietnam War. Highly Recommended.< Less
