Successful writer Peter Felix is still, years later, dealing with the fallout from the disastrous reception of his novel Dark Conquest when he gets a call from iconic British screen idol Guy Larymer. This fast-paced novel plots the course of the two men as they struggle with unreliable financial backers, over-emotional actors and their own volatile personal lives in their fight to bring their blockbuster of the Norman Conquest to the big screen and revive their stalling careers. The fights; the intrigues; the gory glory of one of history’s greatest events, the Battle of Hastings, is paralleled in this hilarious account of the making of the movie. A must for film-buffs, this poignant story will touch anyone who is stirred by history and gripped by the bitter-sweet follies of life.

Mar 8, 2009"Harold's Eye by Michael Perry" This might seem extravagant and wildly improbable if the plot wasn't set partly in Hollywood with movie industry characters. It's funny (snigger to belly laugh range); the narrative is compelling and following the film references is great fun. It's a must-read for anyone who loves the movies and enjoys a rattling good story.
Nov 26, 2008"Harold's Eye by Michael Perry" This is a well-written thoroughly enjoyable novel. The characters involve you in their lives; you want them to succeed and you can't wait to find out what happens to them next. The story races along and its very funny. It made me laugh out loud! Essential summer reading.
Jul 22, 2008"Harold's Eye" Written compassionately and with good humour, with a welcome steady eye in the film-maker's world of financial, emotional and personality extremes, Michael Perry's novel grasps attention, working ever towards the next moment's gut laughter. The writing is well-controlled, the plot working towards a series of taut social situations which draw out a bittersweet succession of responses. The characters of Peter Felix, Anarchis Io and, ahem, Hary Magyar are well-drawn, demonstrating Perry's imaginative ability, and although the characters' dialogue might have been just a little more distinctive, the fruity language used with a little more subtlety and imagination, these faults are certainly over-ridden by the poignant feelings nonetheless stirred for the characters throughout the book. I hope there's a second novel to come. My signed copy is sitting happily up there on the shelf. I recommend you to buy your own - you're not damaging mine!
Apr 3, 2008"michael perry Harolds Eye " Interested in history? enjoy film?; combine the two with this funny, pacy and interesting story. A witty examination of the problems and pitfalls inherent for a writer, in the surreal world of Hollywood. A great read.
Jul 6, 2007"Harold's Eye 6 Stars" An entertaining, erudite and ribald read guaranteed to raise a smile on the beach or on the plane this summer. Perry's grasp of history and cinema is superb and he weaves together a compelling behind the camera look at movie making with the romantic entanglements of the protagonists. Screenwriter Peter Felix's quest for the realisation of his screenplay about the battle of Hastings takes him on an hilarious journey through the Hollywood production machine. The novel features some memorable characters, great jokes, surprising set pieces and it has a heart too. The cover's also very pleasing on the eye - buy and enjoy!!
