Luke was a smart guy. Luke should have known better, should have known that infinite patience, meticulous planning and a robust sense of humour were as nothing in the face of outrageous fortune. His itinerary was both seamless and full of promise: Howard in Melbourne, Shoji in Sydney, onto Ben in Singapore, then home to Tomio in London for five days before Tomio flew out to Vancouver and Jimmie arrived from Hong Kong. This network was, of course, no more than the time-blessed axiom of a girl in every port reworked for its gay creator as a boy at every airport. The trip was just days ahead when, unforeseen, the accident struck. The event was to change his life and impact profoundly on the lives of his little gang. So who better to tell this story than the vivacious founder of the network? As for the accident in waiting, the suspicion that fate has interventions at its disposal when we least expect them, well, you will just have to draw your own conclusions. Luke, as you will learn,... Sep 14, 2012The Internet changed dating for a generation. I am one of them and this fun novel captures the naughty reality perfectly. It also lingers in the mind, simply because the power of the unexpected, as in real life, impacts on lives in such an unforeseen way. Does it have a happy ending? That's down to your interpretation. But, along the way, your attention will have been well rewarded.
Nov 11, 2008"Is Luke a hero?" It's the storyteller, Luke, who captures the imagination here. Love him or hate him, he's a compelling, amoral, impulsive, charismatic figure who believes he has got away with a very naughty plan of sexual indulgence. And he's gone global with it! The plan unravels as a result of "The Accident", throwing him onto a path to a kind of redemption. You will find yourself sympathising with his emotional rollercoaster as much as with his mooted lovers. Well, maybe you won't. But, for some of us, life would be a lot less fun if the naughty boys weren't around to keep us, by turns, amused or appalled. Warmly recommended.
Aug 6, 2008"The accident that waited to happen..." This was a very enjoyable novel about human contact at a distance. As bonds develop and meetings occur we seem to be heading for an interesting though possibly predictable denouement. The accident when it happens is far from expected and the implications are very thought provoking. A good read to the end!
Sep 18, 2007"A big idea thoughtfully explored." We do indeed live in a world where opportunities for casual meetings have been transformed by the internet. But here's the downside...the possibilities are sometimes more fragile, the consequences sometimes more unpredictable. This author shakes it all up with an accident that impacts on the lives of a network of lovers with consequences that vary from the tragic to the hilarious. My emotions were engaged quite as much as the characters in the novel. Readable and provocative would be my summary.
