"A wonderful achievement" Mr. Tweedale's Clementine Vulgate, a labor of love as well as scholarship on his part, is a major event. Finally, here is a widely available text of the true Latin Vulgate. Formerly, the only edition available of the 'Vulgate' was a sad image of the ancient Clementine, without punctuation, a hodge-podge of variant readings and exemplars. The Clementine was THE edition of Biblia Sacra for centuries, but has not been readily available for many years. Hopefully this edition will replace the Stuttgart and the so-called New Vulgate. As for the quality of the volume itself (printed by Lulu), it is impeccable. The font is small, but very distinct and clear. The binding is quite sound; this is a quality book that will last for years. I could not be more happy with the text or with the quality of the volume. (Hopefully a hardcover edition will be available soon.) For anyone interested in having the traditional Latin text of Scripture, this is the edition... More > to choose. Mr. Tweedale deserves many thanks both for his labor over several years, and for making this text available in an affordable format. I thank him very much.< Less

"A Handsome Volume" This is an excellent edition of the Clementine Vulgate, that has excellent quality for the price. I have two other editions of the Vulgate, the Colunga-Turrado, printed in Spain; and the Stuttgardt critical version from the German Bible Society. Both of these are in my opinion, grossly overpriced-- rarely costing under $50. The Colunga-Turrado, a Clementine version, is now rare/out of print and hard to findin the United States. Meanwhile the Stuttgardt is hard to read due to sparse puctuation, and is more of a scholarly tool, rather than devotional. This edition by Michael Tweedale, a labor of love, is very well suited for those wanting an affordable edition of the Vulgate. Though like a previous reviewer, I was disappointed with the small type size, I was surprised by the size of the volume: about the size of an average trade paperback novel (6" x 9"). Regrettably, there is no hardback edition (yet). Otherwise, the inside of the Bible is... More > handsomely set out: each book starts on a new page, each page has two columns with 68-lines to the column. The typeface is crisp despite its size, and I was pleased that the editor took the trouble to include the special Latin ligatures æ, œ and ë to aid in pronunciation. Despite the low, 740 page-count, the entire canonical Clementine Vulgate is here, along with the deuterocanonicals. Apart from the Biblical text, the only other contents of the book are a forward and Church encyclicals at the beginning, though all are in Latin. There are also no prefaces to each book, no section breaks or headings, and no cross references or footnotes. This is a straight, plaintext edition of the Clementine Vulgate, though poetry/psalms are differentiated from prose by line-divisions. Overall, for the price this is well worth the buy. Baronius Press, Ltd. of the UK plans to publish a more deluxe leather-bound edition utilizing Tweedale's text of the Clementine Vulgate by 2007...< Less

"Clementine Vulgate" Finally! An affordable and accessible edition of the Clementine Vulgate. Note that the print is a bit smaller in this edition than the other current editions of the Vulgate that are available. It could be an obstacle for someone who has problems reading smaller print. I realize that this was done purposely to stay under lulu's 780 page limit. In order to make the print larger, the work would need to be split into two volumes, which I'm guessing, Mr. Tweedale did not want to do. I wouldn't either. A one volume work is much more portable and practical. Thank you, Mr. Tweedale for the years of labor it probably took you to make this possible.
