Guilt

ByMichael Wallach

Writing a short story is difficult, but beginning the story is not much of a challenge. Once the main character was invented along with his personal details, the challenge lied in character developed and the internal desire to reveal more than probably should be revealed. How much description of the surroundings should be included to properly immerse the reader in the setting? Answers to both of these questions were experimented with and probably at different times answered differently. Some places the description felt more necessary so as to better understand the character and, better yet, the world through the character’s eyes. Another challenge was concerning character development; how much should happen and in how many words. Ultimately, lightly mentioned details were chosen over a direct explanation in the hopes that the readers might take a moment to infer for themselves what and why something is happening or is being thought.
