""Practical little gem never losing the reader in the quagmire of impersonal theory"" By Jerry Parks "USA Today All-American Teacher; N... (Lexington, KY USA) - See all my reviews This little gem should be required reading in education methods classes, and the first gift from principals to every new teacher. There is no dearth of pedantic, theoretical, and philosophical tomes written for educators. Many are helpful. Most are a snooze. But Michele's cogent and practical advice is a welcome departure. Her discussions on collaboration, effective grading procedures, and the social aspect of dealing with colleagues and principals, are topics seldom addressed in teacher preparation classes. It will serve as a compass for the new teacher, and a verification guide for old pros. The book may be the by-product of the author's frustration, but it will save untold misery to the novice teacher entering the real world of education, and it is a work I wish I'd owned twenty years ago.
