Mike Ballard has a deeply philosophical and pragmatic bent. Science fiction is his genre -- and yet this term is altogether too narrow to describe the full scope of his writing. Ballard's speculations about the future are the outcome of complex intellectual theorizing, as well as cool, inductive logic. He writes with a keen feeling for humanity and its drive for a sense of reality that is not constrained by compulsive economic activity. Freedom emerges from a high-technology capsule that suddenly lands on Earth.
