Wytchmoor Peak Retired senior detective David Cooke is having problems with some very unpleasant supernatural and occult phenomena and entities, possibly stirred up by his neighbour, unscrupulous and self seeking adept Athena Harcourt-Jones, in her poking around in the ruins behind Temple Farm Cottage looking for … something. He turns to former colleague Detective Chief Inspector Millicent Hampshire, who happens to be psychic, with some psychic friends who also have unusual talents … but Millicent is involved in a case of a 12 year old girl who disappeared without an obvious trace in a busy street mid-afternoon two weeks before, last seen leaving a shop in Witchmoor Edge by several witnesses, one of whom is Athena Harcourt-Jones ... who has also disappeared. What was Athena seeking? Why is somebody else apparently seeking it too? Why has she now disappeared and what, if any, is her connection with the missing girl? What happened in the 16 century to leave the evil Athena has stirred up?
