This is a lovely ruleset on it's own or used as a supplement to the Orignal D&D styled S&W Whitebox. Since it's adapted from the Whitebox the choices of character classes are kept to a minimal 3 with a Half-Ogre race variant. Additional material like the Ninja class can be found at the author's blog page: http://swordplusone.blogspot.com/ Well written, well-researched and (like S&W Wb) wonderfully succinct, I'm preferring these rules to my AD&D Oriental Adventures (with the exception of the honour system in OA). If I was to run an eastern campaign this would be may choice of rulea. The Monsters are fascinating! I'd recommend this to anyone interested in D&D or any fantasy RPG - it's an easy play (oriental) universe in a book. Billiam B http://bit.ly/rpgblog
An excellent lesson in how to take an existing rule set and then re-skin with different names before adding in the odd new monster and magical item. There is no background. There is no new advice on running this game. There is no advice for the GM telling you how this game is different from standard Swords & wizardry. There is no discussion of the genre. There is nothing here to inspire the player or the GM. A great opportunity. A great title. Both are ignored and wasted.
