The book is intended for those who feel that the science of psychology needs a concept that integrates the current thinking schools. The author, a European psychologist active in HR consulting, has developed a thinking frame, a paradigm, that is independent of current research schools, but which integrates in a simple model existing results and theories of psychology. The book contains formal and visual descriptions of the suggested model, as well as independent articles that use this model in everyday life, dealing with phenomena including problem solving, altruism, aggression, sex, and religion. Although elements of this concept are already known, to enable a better understanding of this new perspective on human beings, the book contains many illustrations and easy-to-understand examples. In this way the book can reach every person who is interested in social sciences and who would like to improve their understanding of our selves, as well as psychologists and scientists in this... Oct 15, 2009"Excellent revolutionary scientific ideas with an ugly cover" If you are curious to see what sexual intercourse and praying at church have in common, this book is for you! Perhaps it is due to the author not being an academic that the book has a fresh language and style, and constantly offers the reader new Aha experiences. The model presented by the author is both elegant and simple. You can begin to use it after reading just the first seven pages. Following the short introduction, chapters shed light on what I find in everyday occurrences. Relations with my partner, why I become aggressive (and is that bad or good?), what I feel, and why, when encountering problems, and much more. The table of contents displays the variety of topics covered. It can also be read as a collection of independent articles, enabling one to select the chapters of most interest to them; for example, on sex, or couples. Although it seemed that the author’s intention was not to do so, I first read... More > the last chapter as a self-help guide. It deals with the consequences of the model on happiness. The chapter examines in details the pros and cons of being religious, living a promiscuous life, having many children, making money, or helping others. I found this list of evaluated alternatives useful when reflecting on my own life. I believe there are two major advantages offered by the book which should make it a scientific bestseller. Although I often read popular scientific books, I have not previously seen such a powerful model that explains in a clear and logical way so many different things. This is mostly due to the excellent examples in the footnotes, which are augmented with illustrations. After reading the book I felt that I had a new view of the world around me, and I now look upon myself differently. The disadvantages: *the content is let down by the cover, which looks ’cheap’, and is a mistake in its marketing; *the theory is good, and I believe that it works as it fits with my experiences. However, I would have liked more bibliography references and empirical proofs. Without these it will not be seen as of merit or as valuable as I believe it should be. *I would be happy to read some academic reviews of the book. That raises the question of whether researchers will view such a theory written by an outsider... We will see. I am happy that I was amongst the first of its readers. Congratulations, Mr. Fodor!< Less
