Silhouettes of Men
eBook (PDF), 210 Pages
The tale of two mad travellers beating their way across the globe and into the wild depths of South America; A wild journey of friendship, philosophy and intoxication; A voyage of excess, of discovery and destruction, of spontaneity and freedom, of backpacks and cheap hostels, of beaches and jungles and Andean peaks. A story that takes the reader from the busy streets of India to the pavements of London, from Inca caves to smoky overcrowded cities, from dreamy paradise to slum-filled realities of despair, from sublime moments of untouchable beauty to late night drunken hazes and drug-fuelled madness, from charismatic urban heroes to forgotten vagrants and wandering nomads, from blinding love to pointless death, from untamed excitement to the most horrid depths of fear, and everything in between... and all in search of kicks and captured majestically by a modern poet

Oct 27, 2008"A fantastic read from an emerging Australian author" This is the first publication I have read from Miles Hunt, and it was such an entertaining page turner. You can really see the Authors personality coming through the autobiographical structure with insightful, philisophical, and often very commical gems throughout each chapter. This has definately inspired my travel bug and i'm very keen to get out and experience the world the way the author has. Five stars from me!
Sep 12, 2008"A must-read for all those who take pleasure in adventure and companionship" A rare and beautiful depiction of the dreams, desires, decency, hedonism and adventures of young men. The author writes in a manner reminiscent of the beat generation, lovingly fashioning his descriptions of the mad, sometimes debaucherous times of a young man's progression into adulthood. Like Ginsberg, Hunt's gift lies in his accurate portrayal of how young men really are. Although the novel, at times, reads like an extended tribute to hedonism, it is relieved at every turn by the genuine interest and compassion that Hunt and his friend, Munga, take in the people and places around them. From buying beers and meals for their local tuk-tuk driver in Thailand, to learning about the truly compassionate face of Islam in India; from sex and beer-fueled nights at Munich's famed Oktoberfest to the dirty, character-laden streets of Amsterdam; from the sublime natural splendour of the South American... More > continent to its coke-ridden, amoral cities, the book is filled with lustrous descriptions of the families, traditions, cultures and landscapes that the two encounter. Hunt's harrowing description of Brazil is particularly memorable. Brazil's casual cruelty is more of a hallmark of its society than its glittering beaches; a point that's graphically demonstrated when Hunt witnesses the execution of a young boy for snatching a bag. All in all, however, the novel is a tale of immense pleasure and joy. Hunt's passion for people, for adventure and most of all for his friends shines like sunlight through a shuttered window. This is a remarkable book by a remarkable young mind. I, for one, can't wait for his next endeavour. Luke Debeer.< Less
