I have known Misty, Luke, Glen, and Jenna since about the time Luke began using a wheelchair. I still remember the beaming smile on his face when Misty rolled him into our store in Anchorage to meet Patricia and me. We came to know the family very well spending time with them both in and away from their home. In reading their story in "In Your Face" has been deeply moving – with "in your face" circumstances, decisions, and daily struggle as well as LOL surprise humor. Like the time Luke's grandfather invited him to run over his foot with his new wheel chair. "How heavy can it be?" He never asked again ! The love, courage, and dedication of this family to each other is at the top of any measure. Luke has led a full life, more than most children, despite or because of his DMD and his mother's fierce determination, and the many sources of support from many directions. Misty reveals all and does it with love for her reader, because this story will inspire... More > Duchenne mothers, fathers, and extended family who are now where Misty was 14 years ago. It is also for the generous people in education and helping professions who work with children. Though the story is heart wrenching at times, it is always told with love, aliveness, and encouragement. This story is a model for living for any family, and any human being.< Less
