Can you tune your own piano? You can, providing you have a good sense of pitch and are not tone deaf. However, you should never attempt to adjust a piano string without thoroughly understanding what you are about to do. There is a real danger of damaging your valuable piano or even seriously injuring yourself if you don't do it right. You must have the proper tools and always wear safety glasses. A piano string is a spring steel wire under high tension. If a piano string breaks suddenly, it could whip back and damage or destroy an eye. This book covers several aspects of piano tuning such as: - MANIPULATION OF THE TUNING HAMMER - SETTING THE MUTES OR WEDGES IN THE UPRIGHT - SETTING THE MUTES IN THE SQUARE PIANO - TABLE OF VIBRATIONS PER SECOND - REGULATING, AND REPAIRING and so much more! I am a registered piano technician. This book is, in my opinion, not an accurate or modern book. It seems like a copy of a book written 100 years ago, but I can't be sure. It mentions the start of the modern piano design happening 300 years ago around the year 1600. That is my reason for thinking it has been copied from an old text. Also, on iTunes, the intro mentions tuning square grands. Those have been out of style for about 80 years. Also, the writer of the intro on, is obviously not a piano technician and has probably never tuned a piano; a piano string does not whip up and smash you in the face when it breaks. It is at high tension, but is not highly elastic. When it breaks, there is a tiny "click" sound, not as dramatic as you may think. Then, there is a space of about 1/2" between the broken pieces. I.e. No whipping. Also, on grands and uprights, the string is held down by the v-bar or agraffes. There are other more accurate books out there.... More > Unfortunately, not on or iTunes. I may put something together. Stay Tuned!< Less
