The Large Hadron Collider at CERN delivered its first data in 2010. One of the first results from the collider was a search for new types of matter. This thesis describes one of these searches for a type of matter called R-Hadrons, long-lived particles that could be detected at the LHC. The book describes the basic elements of the search, from theoretical motivations, through the experimental setup and devices a new way of searching for long-lived particles in calorimeters.
