(HARD COVER)“ From the daily death of the sun to the cry of a sister for the life of a brother, from [John] Coltrane’s melodic place in history to the griot’s spoken path creating history, we view places seen and unseen. Sep 5, 2009"Now that's what I'm talking 'bout" Finally, If there were no covers for this book, I would a sworn that it was something from the last century, really. Flipping through the pages, I rushed through Floating as if the pages were gonna run away. Then i realized that all I had was incomplete so I went over again, this time slow-like reading those sweet melancholy poems audibly to me. Granted, The Wedding and Woman and quite a few of them made me feel suicidal and hate life as a whole, but, damn, that was good. Where was this writer all this time, and why were we forced to read ee cummings and john updike? This brother gets down to your sole and wrings your insides with all the finesse of a gladiator. But you float above some of them big words and strange descriptions and other hurdles and then you sigh a sigh of, damn, de ja vu? Now, this what am talking about, poetry that makes you reconnect to a past you never known. And makes you feel intelligent because you understand. I... More > am recommending it to everyone in my school and even my professor too. This guy looks pretty young on the back of the book, but the words outta those pages have to be coming from the lips of a wizened old centenarian, at least. Great book. Now it is time to get me some Dream A Song.< Less
Jun 8, 2009"From Sandi Mallory, WEAA 88.9, Lite FM 101.9" A heart full from the sights of many missions Nana S. Achampong came to me with a book of verse. The cover cried out to me – expressions from the last century…My life long love affair with words and the pictures that they paint aided me in the quest to journey the path within, and my interest of world vibrations that have brought me joy through my love of world music and experiences, fueled my campaign to explore the written world envisioned. Once inside, I was greeted with verse divided in chapters from Jazz to Afrobeat, Soul, Blues and Gospel. So many experiences, places, people and things…blatant emotions, questions and unanswered questions that we each feel and know not how to express. Nana reveals them with aplomb – head-on with no pity. From the daily death of the sun to the cry of a sister for the life of a brother, from Coltrane’s melodic place in history to the Griot’s spoken path creating history, we view places... More > seen and unseen, paths traveled with time-worn shoes and an international vision... pain and joy from a heart full from the sights of many missions…Yes, some poems from the last century. Written over the period of the last fifteen years, Nana has seen the world from the eyes of a journalist, reporter, columnist, editor, publisher, producer, artist, consultant and script writer. Obviously he has had a long-standing love affair with words and the pictures that they create. Go to “Sudan” and feel her life story. Walk in the shoes of “A Man with No Name” and experience the collective history of “Another Day in Babylon” through love, life, joy and pain. And before it is all over, we give thanks to the All-Embracing for the ability to be. I enjoyed reading Nana’s works, and feel that when you do, you will too.
