Riding the White Horse is a true account of a young girl that stepped out of her fairytale world onto a path of destruction. Each chapter chronicles her life as she is transformed from innocence to monstrous and directly into the outstretched arms of heroin addiction. The story is written from memory of a painful experience as a junkie and her affection for the needle. Hop on and join her in an adventure as she rides the white horse (heroin) and experience first hand the effects and destruction of addiction. As each occurrence toward devastation is overturned the reader will experience feelings of true compassion then deep disappointment as Nancy consistently returns to the drug filled crime ridden streets. While her dependence on horse worsens and days become darker she ends up a repulsive thief and junkie; wondering how it got this far. But after all is said and done, Nancy hopes to be remembered as the person she is today and the years after she rode the horse back home.

"Riding the White Horse" March 2009 It is said that "Perspective is everything in life." This read makes that adage all the more so. As a young girl growing up in the Bronx, with a very liberal mom who didn't want her daughter to miss out on anything, she gave her the knowledge and the freedom to make all the mistakes she can. For a parent, this is a Crap Shoot. You can either win, or lose it all! Thank God my Mom won it, and her gamble on me didn't fail. Not so with Nancy Ann, who's vivid account of her childhood, era of the time, and uncalculated choices, took her from the bosom of Love, tradition, warmth, and safety to the scorching, unforgiving inferno of addiction and street life. To claw at the bowels of addiction and come up triumphant is nothing less than a miracle. Her unapologetic account of her newfound pastime is a textbook manual for those who do not believe that drinking, and smoking are gateways to many other abuses. Substance, Self, and Loved ones... More > are never spared when dealing with the stranglehold of a beloved's hell. Nancy's account of her escapades make you feel as desperate as she is, down to when she loses a bundle of dope, and you as the reader are gripped with the horror that she will have nothing to sooth her abysmal habit. In all, she took me through streets I ran through, to neighborhoods that I visited family and friends, and not surprisingly the fact that I vaguely remember Ms. Nancy Ann. I guess it was a latent wakeup call as this could have easily been my life had It not been for a flip of a coin, fate, knowledge, faith, vanity, love? I have no idea why or how life is an unscathing tale for some, and for others a never ending nightmare that can last decades. We've all known someone in this situation, who are still fighting their demons, and trudging along in their own mire or have vanquished their dragons, and flourished, however, the latter are too few and far between. Which makes me say! Move over Malcom, Martin, Obama, and all of those who've changed others lives for the better, and make room for those who've made the brave and arduous decisions to get clean, stay clean, and have put an end to their own, and their loved ones nightmares. Congratulations and Thank You Nancy Ann! I was touched with hope because of you!< Less
