A systematic re-ordering of all answers (both correct and incorrect) provided by the contestants on Family Feud over five weeks in spring, 2005. Expanded with answers from fifteen additional episodes in late spring, 2008.

Needless to say, we love this new book of ours…and think it is scary -- in that, when all the answers are there before us, there is a suggestion of some hive-mind stuffed with pop culture -- and Family Feud acts as some kind of overflow valve for the growing detritus. That’s just one interpretation. Poems are open to interpretation, right? Pick it up and interpret it for yourself -- then say “Take that, poetry!”

"Pop Culture Thermometer" Austin collected answers from Family Feud contestants, then ordered into this short, powerful book of poems. Austin's reordering is expert- as you read through the answers, you sample a world of common popular knowledge, and day-time TV sentiments. Survey Says! is funny, clever, and--beneath the surface--a collection of truths. Who knew that one day Family Feud would throw our years of answers back at us, reminding us of how we speak, how we think, and how we feel.
