ByNathaniel Hawthorne

Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804-1864) was an American novelist. Nathaniel added a "w" to make his name "Hawthorne" in order to hide this relation with his ancestor John Hathorne, the only judge involved in the Salem witch trials. His fiction works, centers on New England, are considered part of the dark romanticism movement. The depictions of the past are used only as a vehicle to express common themes of ancestral sin, guilt and retribution. His later writings also reflect his negative view of the Transcendentalism movement. Evert Augustus Duyckinck said of Hawthorne, "Of the American writers destined to live, he is the most original, the one least indebted to foreign models or literary precedents of any kind". This collection, contains his complete novels and his greatest short stories, in their original editions: Fanshawe, The Scarlet Letter, The House of the Seven Gables, The Blithedale Romance, The Marble Faun, Septimius Felton, Twice-Told Tales, Mosses from an Old Manse, The Snow Image & Tanglewood Tales.
