The author wonders if it is the end of the ‘market economy’, referring to the impacts of globalization in the aftermath of the credit crunch of 2008. While we all seek answers to the crisis, global economic future remain dark and uncertain. Can we take a peep at the dark days of the closed economic system? It would be unthinkable to step back to protectionism, author argues. Management of the economy requires vision and innovation. National economies are part of the global economic system and the conventional policy tools do not seem to work today. The author proposes a challenging strategy to privatize the economy and corporatize the nation-state. The concepts of National Equity and Gross National Asset are rather innovative. Economic privatization involves commoditizing the economic potential and capability to be sold to the tax-payer stakeholders who contribute to the National Insurance or Social Security scheme. It may also mean a low-tax and low debt economy.
