The first in a series presenting the books of The Book of Mormon individually and accessibly. None of the text has changed, but the fresh, friendly layout just might help someone pick up The Book of Mormon who wouldn't otherwise. This book begins the history of the Nephites, a civilization that thrived on the American continent for approximately one thousand years, until their destruction at about a.d. 421. A prophet-historian named Mormon abridged the records of these people until he died in battle while leading the Nephite armies in their great last war. These records were then buried by his son Moroni until 1823, when Moroni, now resurrected, appeared to a young Joseph Smith and revealed their location to him. Joseph translated these records into English using the Urim and Thummim by the gift and power of God.
