I hesitated before writing this review, because I like Nick Dutch, I like his Youtube videos, I like his approach to life and his ideas. However this book has major problems. I've forked out my money for this, so I think it's fair that I can have a voice. Firstly, the spelling and grammar. Horrible. It reads like a typed first draft. Surely even 'Spellcheck' available on modern word processors would fix this mess? I get the feeling Nick didn't read his own book, or if he did, he didn't notice a single spelling mistake? This is why self publishers need a friend who can edit the work, or at least check for spelling mistakes. (We all make them, on first drafts). Secondly, it reads like a 92 page Nick Dutch rant. Whilst those rants are nice, and the ideas are thought provoking, it veered off topic far too many times. The book seemed to skim the topic of Transdeism very lightly, and then most of it was a critical review of New Age systems and approaches to magic, followed by a few pages at... More > the end where Nick talks about his approach to Tarot. The topic 'divination' in the broad sense is not covered in detail that warrants the word to be in the title. If I was Editing Nick's book, I think I could help him make it better. I would suggest he renames this to 'Reason Based Occultism'. That would make a better title. I would have clear chapters, and names (topics) for the chapters. Avoid excessive ranting, and appeals to emotion in his language. This occurs more often at the end of the book. And of course, the spelling. It was terrible, and Nick really let himself down with this.< Less
