"Re: A Book to Avoid" Hey Sorry you didn't think much of it. First i'd like to adress the broadness of the issue. This is a first copy which has been compiled solely by members of The Royal Academy of Harry Potter ( so it's pretty insular, but they were the people who came up with the project. In the future we would like to expanded it outside of those particular fields, but the resources available to us at the moment won't allow that. If you would be interested in helping produce a second edition we would be honoured and give you full author credits. However that said the people who contributed are some of the most knowledgeable about the process of getting websites up and the majority of them have been involved in the creation of several. I know the editing and jumping around is terrible, it was all a bit cut and paste and didn't really follow a particular plot line, so sorry about that. Again that's something i'd like to recitify in future... More > editions. Outside of the big three or four sites we could only really mention the ones we've personally been involved in, and whilst i would have loved to have included more of the thousands of sites out there, we didn't really have the time. I appreciate your comments and am sorry you didn't like the book, and would love it if you would be interested in helping out in the future. You can email me at if you have any firther queries. Yours sincerely, Nick Hilton< Less

"A Book to Avoid" This could have been a very interesting project, if it had been properly executed. There are several things wrong with this book, not least the spelling/grammer mistakes: know the difference between faithful/fateful, two/too, please! Or, at the very least, run it through a spellcheck! Sloppy editing too - there's one point where the html tags () have been left on! Come on, guys! Layout is poor. What kind of book starts a chapter on the same page another has left off? Suffice to say, grammar and spelling are a problem, but this book suffers from a complete lack of knowledge of the Harry Potter fandom. Topics discussed focus solely on the websites owned by the writers and their friends, and the two or three sites that they consider 'worth mentioning'. If I'd wanted to read advertisements for these sites, I'd have gone to the 'Diagon Alley' forum on CoS! Fanfiction, one of the largest sides to the fandom, was barely touched upon at all. Where was the... More > discussion of Cassandra Clare - Harry Potter fandom's most notorious character and Big Name Fan? Or Ms. Scribe - surely she deserved a mention? The book jumps about a lot: there is no clear, coherent pattern to it (which might, in a text of this kind, be a chronological documentation). To promote a book with the subtitle "The birth of the Harry Potter fandom", you should really work out for yourself where it *did* actually start. A book to avoid. If you want a history of the Harry Potter fandom, check the Fandom History Wiki, or the Ms. Scribe Story by CharlotteLennox on JournalFen.< Less
