I read Nicolette's Greek Angels in the Lion's Den about two years ago when the book first came out. It was a fascinating insight into the Greek migrant experience from an American perspective. As a Greek-Australian I was interested in the lived experience of Greek migrants and their children in other countries, patricianly America. I found reading the book of benefit and a cathartic experience, something I could relate to. The book takes a good hard, but not unsympathetic, look at the difficulties Greek migrants had adjusting to a new unfamiliar land. The experience elucidated in the book could also be written about other migrant experiences, such as Italian-Americans, for example. In some ways, I think the book is sympathetic to the Greek migrant experience and the way the older generation tore itself from there Mother Country and what they had to do to survive in a new land. And they didn't always get it right, mostly I think they got it right for themselves and their children.... More > Nicolette writes with a perceptive eye about what it means to acquire two identities, two loyalties. I recommend this book.< Less
