"Searing Indeed" This is a wonderful collection of poetry. Truly you can see the progression of the artist and their understanding of the world around them. Each poem, each section took me on a journey and caused me to step back and re-evaluate the last decade of my life. Poems such as "Little Bit", "Spit" and "Somewhere in this City" truly describe the urban experience in terms that even the most unaffiliated can grasp while works such as "Bathe" & "Beauty" express a more tender side to Nikki Blak that truly rounds her out as an artist. Truly an inspirational work sculpted with both subtlety and urban grit. A highly recommended read.

"how am i the first to post a review??" i get a little scared when i read any poetry, because it seems like i can never find poetry that i actually enjoy. but i'm happy to say that i really enjoyed reading this book. i've recently been reading nikki's work and that of her 'contemporary' ebony, and i've been feeling more inspired and i want to write more like i did in high school... alas, i have nothing to write about at the moment. but i will let you BOTH know when i write something and force you to read it!! thank you for your talent, and i'm looking forward to reading any other books you publish. p.s. my favorite poem so far is Little Bit.
