Scent of Jasmine – A Review I have known the author for almost ten years and yet I realize that I did not really know her before I read "Scent of Jasmine". I picked up the book early one morning and could not put it down until I had finished it. We begin during the Israeli Yom Kippur war of 1973. The scene opens with Nitza leaving Tel Aviv to visit her fiancé in the desert south. She hitches a ride with a soldier and our exploration into the author’s inner world begins. This exploration is the mystery and truth of Nitza Agam. To me, the book is about the flimsiness of reality and the thoughts and deeds we weave around it to make our personal worlds not only livable but spiritually and sensually enjoyable. What are people really thinking about when they are going about their lives. Nitza is a modern day Walter Mitty whose thoughts are subtler, more beautiful and deeper than Thurber’s. Spend time with "Scent of Jasmine" and you will have made a friend for life.
