This is the wonderful and heartwarming real life story of Norman Lenz, a German Chimney sweep by profession, as he learns his trade in pre and post World War II Germany. To survive he has to take up the ancient custom of "Wanderschaft" or travelling thru the country to ply his trade. It is also the story of how he and his family leave Germany with nothing and journey to far away Canada to start a new life. It is a story about chasing your dream, never giving up and making the most of "sweeps luck".

As a chimney sweep, I am always looking for true stories about sweeps, and this one did not dissapoint. I learned a lot about the life and profession in Germany, especially how rough it was during the war from this book. An absolute must have for any chimney sweep's library, but a great read for anyone! I highly recommend this book. Thanks Norman! Marge Padgitt, Kansas City, Missouri, USA
Norman Lenz's book is outstanding and I strongly urge him to seek a mainline publishing house so it can get wider distribution. Lulu Publishing has prepared a very professional, readable product and I salute their skills. Who would have thought chimney sweeping was anything more than a good stiff broom and perservance? It is anything but. Norman explains the science involved in delightful, readable sometimes funny language in spite of the hardships and challanges he faced. We meet a family resilient and tenacious in overcoming extreme conditions after the war in Germany and later in Canada after the emigrated. The survive and excel. This is a terrific read.
