Bravo, Mme Ellison! Et maintenant, je pars au Ranelagh... In English: Written in flowing conversational-but-Académie-correct French replete with delightful idioms, "Kai Phong, la chow-chow-tte" held me spellbound from start to finish. Do you love Paris? Do you love her parks? Do you love to people-watch? Do you enjoy the distinct identity of each arrondissement? Does it seem to you that French dogs are politer than their foreign counter-parts? Have you ever loved a dog? A "yes" to any of these and you will laugh out loud as you read this book. You may also turn pages with a tear in your eye; you may wish you had been more observant the last time you strolled through the Ranelagh and will probably vow to do it differently next time. The "regulars" you see each day on the streets of Paris will take on an important identity in your eyes; their kindness will be more visible to you; you will learn that Parisian women can smile and enjoy a joke, and that they share more differing views on "raising" dogs than they perhaps do on raising children. I savored this book on many levels, just as I savor Paris. An added bonus for the avid Francophile is the rich vocabulary Mme Ellison uses in describing Kai Phong's first year with her family. This is a great read, and a great re-read. The only part I didn't like was that it ended. I felt somewhat lost when I couldn't find out "what happened next." Bravo, Mme Ellison! Paris, here I come!< Less
