This true to source translation is an undiluted tribute which preserves the Grimm Brother's legacy. The oral traditions are retained in this translation. The reader is introduced to the original story tellers and the time/place in which their stories were told. These documented accounts form the history, and beating heart of the fables. The Old World charm and vocabulary of the time is intact. The decisions that the author made to retain this charm is phenomenal, he uses the spelling "Catz" and "Maus" for cat and mouse, in the second tale, to lend to the German in which it was originally written. The end of every tale includes footnotes which explain the choice of words and the spellings. The author is so true to the 1st edition works that he takes no liberties by adding or excerpting words. The purity of the original intent can be felt in Oliver Loo's translation. A wealth of information, with moral and ethical underpinnings which should be read aloud and retold... More > for another 500 years. The extra side notes from Wilhelm Grimm, and the vocabulary discussions at the end of every tale is priceless. This book is a gem and is at once insightful, honest, and delightful. True Gothic tales. The life of the original story tellers lives on. Vive la Grimm tales! Long live Oliver Loo!< Less
