The year is 1963. A young student at Ireland’s national seminary for the training of priests is leaving. Three friends defy college rules to join him late at night in his room to give him a surprise send-off.
During this “wake” their beliefs and the harsh disciplines of college life come under scrutiny, raising themes which will over-shadow both their lives and the Church in the future - sexual morality, celibacy, the legalistic mentality of the hierarchy and the Vatican.
Tensions develop. They reveal their doubts and uncertainties and are forced to confront their individual weaknesses, which will no doubt return to haunt them in later life. The group forms a microcosm of the Church that will be.
For the departing student all is not as it appears on the surface. A more pressing reason for his departure than loss of vocation is revealed, and it becomes clear that he is a doomed man.
Over-shadowing all is the legendary Ghost Room of the title, scene of a series of mysterious suicides in the distant past.
