This is the Oboe 2 Part Book to Music for Double-reed Ensembles from the 17th & 18th Centuries: “Collection Philidor,” originally published in Thomas' 1973 DMA dissertation. The work contains music performed by musicians in the opulent Court of Louis XIV (1643-1515) where musical life reached high levels and double-reed players could find employment in different spheres including La Grande Écurie & in the late 17th c. the Douze Grands Hautbois du Roi, (12 Grand Oboes of the King) was established consisting of 10 treble and tenor oboes and 2 bssns. André Philidor was oboist in both groups & was librarian, music copyist & guardian of the music performed in the King’s court. Chief among composers was Jean-Baptiste Lully.
