"THE BEST OF THE BEST! " THIS is simply one of the greatest exhibits of its kind. Currently it is the GREATEST for it's unique subject matter and explosive diversity of content and artist visions. Never before to my knowledge has such a book/exhibit catalogue been published dedicated to the creators, characters, and movement of the African Diaspora in the Sequential arts! THIS IS A MUST HAVE BOOK! HISTORY IS IN THESE PAGES- TRUE HISTORY! GREAT SHOW! GREAT CAUSE! Support the Hurricane Relief Scholarship and support the ARTS!
"Open this book and your mind will follow..." The Other Heroes catalog is not only enlightening and entertaining, but it is an excellently designed production--a special treat for any book collector or comic book enthusiast. I was enthralled by the myriad artistic styles and perspectives represented in its pages despite my familiarity with the subject matter and its debatable limitations--a credit to the curators' insight and their inventive presentation of the cartoons, drawings, paintings, and photographs. One rarely gets to see an array of work this varied in one place. Although attending the show certainly isn't mandatory to enjoy the scope and content of this thoughtfully produced collector's item, you owe it to yourself to see the gallery show when it comes to your region (the photographs I've seen of the exhibit documented here are outstanding)--I'm chomping at the bit for my opportunity. The catalog will tide me over until then! If you're even casually interested... More > in art, artists, comics, or graphic design, this book will enthrall you. Black/African-American comic art enthusiasts especially owe it to themselves to make it a part of their personal libraries. You shouldn't experience any buyer's remorse here--not only because your purchase serves a good cause, but because this is simply a great catalog that you'll enjoy for years to come, especially if you mark the names of the artists featured and watch their work evolve.< Less
